Pauline Forde

Hello, I am Pauline Forde an Art Psychotherapist, who works with children and adults, who have experienced trauma, loss, relationship, emotional and behavioural difficulties in their lives.

I have a Masters Degree in Art Psychotherapy from Derby University and an Honours Degree in Fine Arts from Aberystwyth University.

I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and have completed level one in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)

In 2017, I completed Post-Qualifying Advanced Certificate - Relational Couples Counselling.

Over the past ten years, I have worked in various NHS therapeutic settings, including Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Adult Mental Health, a Cancer Support Centre and my own Private Practice based in Llanidloes; Mid Wales.

In a previous life, I was a Registered General Nurse.

The theoretical model that I base my work upon is Attachment Theory. Clinical research informs us the quality of early bonding experiences during infancy and childhood, significantly impacts on our emotional, cognitive, physical, social and neurological development throughout the lifespan and is essential to our sense of well-being in later life.

One of the main facets of psychodynamic psychotherapy is exploring these early attachments and their importance in our mental health and our relationships as adults. This type of therapy gives people the chance to explore their thoughts and feelings and the effect they have on their behaviour and mood.

NICE (National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence, the government’s health body that identifies good practice) recommends psychodynamic therapy for people experiencing depression alongside other complex illnesses. http://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/help-information/me.
